Is Lego good for a 3-year-old?
Children love to build things with their own little hands. Besides being a perfect activity for building fine motor skills, it’s also a fantastic way for kids to build their confidence, hand-eye coordination, problem-solving skills, analytical and logical thinking.
Legos are one of those toys that never seem to go out of style. They were around when you were a kid, they’re here for your kids now, and as long as there are little ones in the world I’m sure they’ll be around for many years to come!
But what about their safety? We all know how 3-year-olds can be rough on things–what if he breaks off a piece and swallows it?
Thankfully, Lego has been making safer products for years now. The newer sets have larger pieces with more rounded edges that are less likely to break or swallow. Plus, there is always the option of buying safe blocks made just from cardboard or wood which don’t pose this risk at all!
Opinions vary on this subject, but I personally think that, yes, Lego is good for a 3-year-old, but with adult supervision.
If you still think that the Classic Lego is not for your child, there’s the LEGO DUPLO collection which is specially designed for toddlers. It comes in larger pieces.
Our Experience with Legos
We are all anxious when it comes to toys with small pieces and I used to be very careful with small pieces around him.
I introduced my son to Duplo around 2 years and to Classic a year later (he’s almost 4 now) and honestly, I trust him with small pieces and I absolutely know that he won’t put them in his mouth.
Suggestion: if your child still puts toys in his mouth around 3-4 years, I suggest avoiding the Lego Classic collection for now.
