How to entertain a toddler?

Toddlers at age 2 are the cutest, they learn how to talk, they also start showing their little personality, even more, they say the strangest things which make you laugh a lot. I am one of those lucky moms whose child started saying those first words before age 2.

If you want to know how we managed that, there’s an article coming soon that will give you a little bit of an insight into what we did at home to achieve this.

Back to today’s article, entertaining a two-year-old is not hard at all. There are so many things you can do with them because they are more involved and they can really enjoy certain experiences.

2. Five Sides Box Cognitive Matching Puzzle

This shape sorting cube is a fantastic toy that will teach any toddler shape recognition. It’s also great for fine motor skills.

3. Magnetic tiles

We have the Magformers magnetic tiles, but any magnetic tiles will work just fine for your toddler. We purchased multiple boxes over time simply because we noticed that this is his favorite toy to play with.

4. Train tracks

Train tracks are other favorites in our house. We like creating tiny playlands that promote imaginative play.

5. Balancing Rainbow Wooden Blocks

This is somewhat a new toy I purchased for my son, but he liked it from the beginning.

6. Legos

We love legos in our house – we incorporated Lego Duplo quite early in our son’s life. After his 2nd birthday, we started introducing him to the classic Lego pieces which have smaller pieces. Of course, this was while he was closely supervised and I was confident enough that he can handle smaller pieces. He doesn’t put toys in his mouth anymore so I knew I could trust him with smaller pieces. Here’s a set we recently built together during a flight.

1. Rainbow Blocks

These acrylic Rainbow blocks are fantastic for stacking, learning colors, and listening to certain sounds. What I like about these is that some of the pieces have a little maze in them which is fun for toddlers. I like to keep ours in the window because the light can come through them and it looks amazing.

2. Geometric Chunky Shape Puzzle

We have something very similar to this one, but I couldn’t find it online so I added an alternative. The one we have has cute animals on the puzzle pieces.

3. Water Coloring Books

We have a couple of water coloring books from a local supermarket very similar to these ones. If you want mess free paiting, these books are amazing.

4. Wooden Shape Color Sorting Stacking Blocks

These stacking blocks are great for fine motor skills and color sorting and recognition.

The best outdoor toys and equipment for 2 year olds

1. Balance Bike

This is the one thing I wish we had bought for my son, but we missed the opportunity. Even though we don’t have this bike, I wanted to include it so you don’t miss out and have multiple options. We had a tricycle and another smaller trike which he loved and had fun with.

2. Trampoline

If you have the possibility, a trampoline is a great way to entertain any child, not just toddlers while outside. Alternatively, you can get an indoor trampoline, just keep in mind that these are a lot smaller and take up a lot of space. Plus your toddler will outgrow it quite quickly. We had an indoor one and then decided to upgrade to the bigger one, that’s outside in our garden.
