The Best Tip for Eating Healthy Snacks this Summer
Being a busy mom (aren’t we all) often leaves me scrambling for the quickest snack I can find. Sometimes I would even skip the snack, which is as equally unhealthy. I found the best way to eat more healthy snacks was to plan ahead. Creating a simple chart or list of healthy snacks and making sure they are within reach is the absolute best way to ensure you are snacking healthy.

The Best Healthy Snacks for Summer
Fruit
It’s an obvious choice I know but one that is often overlooked. Fruit can be very versatile.
Not only can they be added to your morning cereal or yoghurt, but they can also be bagged up and taken on the go. To beat the summer heat, try freezing them in pieces or in a fruit pop. Opt for the superfruits like strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries for an added vitamin boost. Make a fruit salad to snack on mid-afternoon instead of reaching for the chips or cracker box. If you really want something sweeter cut up an apple and dip it lightly in some dark chocolate sauce.

Vegetables
Most Americans don’t get enough vegetables in their diets. Vegetables can are also packed with essential nutrients but can keep you fuller longer, which makes them the perfect healthy snack for summer. But, let’s be honest, veggies just aren’t as appealing as fruit or other yummy snacks. They could be, though! Some easy ways to sneak in more veggies for you and your kiddos are to cut them up and add some dipping sauces. I don’t know about you, but ranch makes just about anything taste delicious. Cut up some carrot and celery sticks, add some broccoli and sliced zucchini, capsicum, and cucumber. Vegetables with dip can be eaten at your desk, when you’re grilling or as a party finger food.

Yoghurt
Yoghurt is fantastic because there are so many ways you can eat it. It contains calcium which is required for healthy bones. Natural unsweetened yoghurt can be eaten every day. If you want to get an extra dose of protein, go for the Greek yoghurt. You can add some berries or nuts to add flavour and additional vitamins and minerals. Another way to use yoghurt is to freeze them or make a delicious smoothie. Kids LOVE smoothies and any time you can get your kids to eat a healthy snack is a winning day for any mom.

Ice Pops
Ice pops made at home can also be a healthy summer snack option, especially when the weather is scorching. Popsicles can be made by using fruit juice, pouring it in an ice tray and letting it freeze for a few hours or overnight. Put a toothpick or stick in the centre once it’s beginning to freeze to make eating it easier. Frozen grapes are also a good option. If you don’t want to use fruit juice then just crunch up your own pieces of fruit and freeze the juice from it.
Summer Snacking
In summer, you want your snacks to be light and refreshing. The heat may make you less hungry, so you can eat more fruit and vegetables instead of pasta and potatoes. It’s a time of year where you can take advantage of all the healthy, delicious options available to have as snacks.
